Edward Christopher "Ed" Sheeran (born 17 February 1991) is an English singer-songwriter. Raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, he moved to London in 2008 to pursue a musical career. In early 2011, Sheeran released an independent extended play, No. 5 Collaborations Project, which caught the attention of both Elton John and Jamie Foxx. He then signed to Asylum Records. His debut album + (2011), containing the singles "The A Team" and "Lego House", was certified quintuple platinum in the United Kingdom. In 2012, he won two BRIT Awards for Best British Male and British Breakthrough. "The A Team" won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
In 2012, Sheeran began to rise to fame in the United States. He made a guest appearance on Taylor Swift's fourth album Red and wrote songs for the boyband One Direction. "The A Team" was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards and he duetted with Elton John during the ceremony. It was released as the third single lifted from the debut studio album + on 11 November 2011.[1] It was released as the second single in the US on 11 February 2013.[2] The song was written by Ed Sheeran, Jake Gosling, Chris Leonard and produced by Jake Gosling. It received its first radio play on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show on 8 September 2011[3] and was the first Ed Sheeran song to make the BBC Radio 2 playlist. The song has peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. The remix featuring P Money premiered on MistaJam's BBC Radio 1Xtra show on 30 September 2011. The music video features Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, as a play on their similar appearance.
Ed Sheeran's third single from his debut album + finds him using a Lego house as a metaphor for a relationship. "I'm gonna pick up the pieces and build a Lego house, if things go wrong, we can knock it down," he sings.
Lego originated in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter from the small town of Billund, Denmark. In 1932 he started making wooden toys to make a living after having lost his job during the depression and he named his new company Lego from the Danish words LEg GOdt ("play well"). Later, it was discovered that in Latin, the term "Lego" means "I put together" or "I assemble." Christiansen began making simple plastic toys as well as wooden ones after the Second World War and in 1949 began manufacturing the now famous interlocking Lego bricks. Ole Christiansen was strongly anti-war, reflecting his Christian upbringing and the effects of the war. Not wanting to encourage warlike construction with his new toy, he made sure that brown and green bricks, which could be used to represent camouflaged military vehicles, were virtually absent from basic Lego sets.
The song's music video was filmed at the Forum, University of Hertfordshire and features Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint as an obsessive fan. Sheeran told MTV UK that it was Grint's Harry Potter colleague Tom Felton who was responsible for his starring role in the clip. "Tom is a fan of my music and started tweeting me, so I just took a chance and he hooked it all up," he explained. "It's all down to him."
